The task of including people with disabilities is an obligation shared by all entities in society that, through elected representatives, must provide conditions so that these individuals can have their special needs met and thus fully exercise their rights. Observing that one of the biggest challenges for people with disabilities is urban mobility, this work came up with the proposal to carry out a diagnosis of the current scenario of accessibility for people with impossibility of locomotion or with reduced mobility in a pilot area located in the city of Monte Carmelo/MG, with the help of geotechnologies and collaborative mapping tools. For this purpose, the application called Shared Gis was used, a platform implemented in Brazil by the “Mapeadores Livres” initiative, a Brazilian chapter of the “Youth Mappers” international collaboration. The existence and conditions of access ramps for wheelchair users and the presence of obstacles on the sidewalk were mainly evaluated. The results obtained point to the need for adjustments in the urban equipment, especially with regard to the level of inclination of the ramps, the presence of obstacles and the width of the sidewalks. Finally, suggestions are also made to improve the tool used in this study, aiming at its better applicability in the task of mapping and diagnosing urban accessibility.
