Avaliação do conhecimento e atitudes de alunos do curso de Odontologia sobre o HIV/AIDS

Resumo: The dental treatment of patients with HIV / AIDS is challenging, since the involved at the procedures carry many types of prejudices. Thanks to the lack of adequate knowledge about biosafety standards, Dentists usually performed inappropriate treatments of the patients. Objective: The objective of the present study was assess knowledge and attitudes by dental graduate students of the Federal University of Uberlandia (UFU), about HIV/AIDS. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study used questionnaires to collect individual information, about undergraduate students of the 7th and 8th semester of the Dentistry School. The questionnaire refer to HIV / AIDS and some questions were about individual perception and knowledge about oral expression of this desease, furthermore, civil responsibilities, biosafety, what actions should be taken about biological accidents, and the development and transmission of the disease. The results were sent to a Software Microsoft Excel and were evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively. Results: The sample was applied by 61 students. Regarding the perception of HIV and the experiences, 59% of the participants reported have provided care at least one self-declared HIV positive patient. In addition, 26% of the surveyed participants reported had suffered some type of biological accident. In this reserch, 31% of those surveyed beleave that a seropositive dental surgeon shouldn’t continue exercising the profession without informing her/his patient. Regarding the use of goggles, 19% of the participants didn’t mention it as personal protective equipment during attending. Conclusion: In this way, the evaluation about knowledge and attitudes of students at the Faculty of Dentistry of UFU is necessary regarding the development and transmission of the virus, as like the oral express of HIV / AIDS. However, it was observed that the sample, be missing a greater understanding of biosafety, behaviors after a biological accident, and civil and criminal liability.

Os profissionais da odontologia por desconhecimento das normas de biossegurança, muitas vezes optam por condutas inadequadas no tratamento desta população. Objetivo: O objetivo da presente pesquisa consistiu na avaliação do conhecimento e atitudes dos estudantes da Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (FOUFU) sobre o HIV/AIDS. Materiais e métodos: Este estudo transversal, utilizou um instrumento em forma de inquérito, a fim de coletar informações individuais, com graduandos do 7º e 8º períodos. O questionário abordou o tema HIV/AIDS ao que tange a percepção individual, conhecimento acerca das manifestações orais, responsabilidades civis, biossegurança, conduta em caso de acidentes biológicos, e desenvolvimento e transmissão da doença. Os resultados foram lançados no Microsoft Excel e foram avaliados qualitativamente e quantitativamente. Resultados: A amostra foi constituída por 61 discentes. Quanto a percepção sobre o HIV e experiências vivenciadas, 59% dos participantes afirmaram ter prestado atendimento a pelo menos um paciente autodeclarado HIV positivo. Neste cenário ainda, 26% dos participantes pesquisados relataram ter sofrido algum tipo de acidente biológico. Cerca de 31% dos entrevistados afirmaram que um cirurgião-dentista soropositivo não deve continuar exercendo sua profissão sem informar seu status sorológico aos seus pacientes. Sobre o uso de óculos de proteção, 19% dos participantes não o citaram como equipamento de proteção individual nos atendimentos. Conclusão: Desta forma, a avaliação do conhecimento e atitudes dos discentes da Faculdade de Odontologia da UFU é adequado quanto ao desenvolvimento e transmissão do vírus, bem como as manifestações orais do HIV/AIDS.
