Origens, distribuições e ramificações das artérias linguais em suínos (Sus scrofa domesticus - linnaeus, 1758) da linhagem Rezende

In veterinary medicine, the morphology plays an important role by intensifying the knowledge for the emergent area of animal odontology. Concerning this promissory specialty that deals whit the stomatognathic system, the tongue has a fundamental importance since the relevance of its functions is without question, such as the help to mastigation, the deglutition and the taste appreciation. In order to better know the irrigation of tongue, the present work aimed to investigate the origins, the ramifications and distributions of the right and left lingual arteries in swine of the Rezende lineage. Thus, three anatomical techniques were used, i.e., the dissection, the corrosion, and the maceration. The referred vessels were injected with a 601 A neoprene latex solution for the development of the first technique, and with a vinyl acetate solution for the remaining techniques. By dissection, it was found that the lingual arteries arose front to the initial segments of the external carotid arteries in 100% of the studied animals. In addition, each lingual artery gave off about 9 (nine) collateral branches, which were clustered and denominated according to the distribution areas found in the ventral region of the oral cavity. By using the Student t test for paired samples, statistically significant differences were found in 2 (two) collateral branches when comparing the right and left lingual arteries.
