QUARTERLY PERIOD ALLOWS FLEXIBILITY IN THE MINIMUM STREAM FLOW OF REFERENCE

Resumo: In some Brazilian states, the grant for water use is based on the minimum stream flow of reference (Q7,10 ), which is calculated on the basis of the annual state of maximum water scarcity. This value can be restrictive in watersheds where the water demand is high. Thus the present study was done to evaluate the seasonality of the minimum Q7,10 on quarterly basis. Traditional method proposed by Eletrobrás (1985) for regionalization of stream flows was applied to the San Francisco river watershed, at Três Marias reservoir. The comparison of estimated values of the quarterly Q7,10 with the estimates of annual Q7,10, showed considerable increase of water availability in the first and second quarters. The results demonstrated that the calculating Q7,10 based on quarterly periods provides considerable increase in water availability, giving flexibility to grant water use mainly during the rainiest periods of the year.

Este valor pode-se tornar restritivo em bacias onde há maior demanda de água e, por essa razão, o presente estudo buscou avaliar a sazonalidade na vazão mínima de referência Q7,10, com a consideração do período trimestral. A metodologia de regionalização de vazões utilizada foi a tradicional, proposta por Eletrobrás (1985), aplicada à bacia hidrográfica do rio São Francisco, a montante do reservatório de Três Marias. Os valores estimados das vazões mínimas de referência trimestrais foram comparados com as estimativas de vazões mínimas com base no período anual, evidenciando um aumento considerável na disponibilidade hídrica no primeiro e segundo trimestres.
