Inequalities in Health Needs among the cities of the state of Minas Gerais: An Empirical Approach as an aid for Public Policies

In order to provide assistance to the development of equitable public policies in the state of Minas Gerais, the present study aimed to identify inequalitiesin health needs among its cities. As an analytical model, it was used the multivariate statistical analysis, specifically the factor analysis, which leaded us to themunicipal health needs index. The analysis allowed us to establish that the socioeconomic and epidemiological variables considered in this study are notindependent and interact closely tied in determining the general framework of the cities health needs, supporting the literature on the social determinants of healthreferred to in this research. The indices of needs show the existence of significant inequalities among the cities and towns in Minas Gerais, even among thosebelonging to the same health zone. However, inequalities are more significant in disfavor to the North, Northeast and Jequiti nhonha areas, these being the onlyareas with needs above the average in the state.Keywords: Need and Demand for Health Care, Health Inequalities, Public health, Public Health Policies.
