The mainstreaming of gender perspective in projects financed by the Portuguese Institute for Development Support: An outstanding issue

The research is focused in the knowledge about the treatment of the gender perspective made ??by the Non-Governmental Development Organizations (NGDO’s) in international cooperation projects that have managed to finance of the Portuguese Institute for Development Support (IPAD) from 2006 to 2011. In this sense, a group of 223 projects was examined, financed by the IPAD for NGDO’s, in various sectors of intervention during the period of time referred to. The results demonstrate that, having regard to the criteria used for the analysis of projects which are proposed by Maruja Barrig and Patricia Ruiz-Bravo (2002), there is a minority of projects that incorporates a gender perspective (7.18% of the analyzed projects) versus most of the projects that do not incorporate a gender perspective (92.82% of the analyzed projects).The mainstreaming of gender perspective in projects financed by IPAD is therefore, still, an outstanding issue.
