Resumo: This article intends to analyze the institute of amicus curiae, in order to demonstrate its democratic importance for the judgements passed by the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court. The methodology was based on relevant bibliography research, focused on authors who study this subject in depth. In summary, amicus curiae is a mode of procedural intervention that is essential for the development of Brazilian democracy, since it supports socially relevant judicial decisions on grounds other than legal ones. Thus, it is guaranteed that the interests of society and those who will be affected by such decisions are considered for the decision-making process.

A metodologia adotada fundou-se na leitura de bibliografia pertinente ao tema cujos autores abordam o assunto de maneira aprofundada. Em síntese, conclui-se que o amicus curiae é um modo de intervenção processual essencial para o desenvolvimento da democracia brasileira, vez que mune as decisões judiciais de extrema relevância social de fundamentos que vão além dos jurídicos.
