Affirmative actions as an instrument for equality of resources promotion: the case of the exclusive trainee program for black people by Magazine Luiza

Resumo: This paper presents the special selection process of racial minorities for Brazilian retailer Magazine Luiza, whose trainee program was restricted to black applicants, as a proposal to implement equality based on Dworkin’s theory. Data shows that black people are in worse conditions than whites in terms of assets and resources, in a scenario of social exclusion that makes the former vulnerable. The fight against discriminatory practices must include, in addition to reprehensible strategies, compensatory measures, which can accelerate the process of seeking equality. This paper, whose nature is eminently theoretical, involved deductive method and qualitative and technical approach of bibliographic and documentary research. It concluded that affirmative actions, such as the one implemented by Magazine Luiza, work as instruments for the promotion of equality of resources, under the terms proposed by Ronald Dworkin.

Dados demonstram que os negros estão em piores condições que os brancos em relação a bens e recursos no Brasil, havendo um cenário de exclusão social que os leva à condição de vulneráveis. O combate às práticas discriminatórias deve abranger, além de estratégias repressivas, medidas compensatórias que possam acelerar o processo da busca pela igualdade.
