The social mapping in school environments - seeking a critical environmental education

Resumo: | The environmental education ensures space in Brazilian schools as an important proposal to discuss the environmental problems, however, usually has a conservative perspective and to be disconnected from local realities. Therefore, the article aims to analyse the environmental education taught in school environments in the Diamantina County, Minas Gerais State (Brazil), in order to update it temporo-spatially. The environmental priorities surrounding of nine elementary schools were enrolled through the participatory mapping and the textbooks these spaces were analysed to identify and characterize their environmental approaches. In general, the cartographic products accounted issues associated with solid waste, wastewater and water, noise and air pollutions, without bringing elements that point to the relations of power and the consequent conflicts by hegemony that structures the modern society. And the teaching materials presents environmental themes in its composition, but most simplified and decontextualized way, which contributes to the results achieved in the participatory mapping activities. How creative and collective construction, the critical environmental education urges before the environmental crisis and, thus, the temporal and spatial updating of environmental issues becomes, since now, a necessary task. |

A educação ambiental garante espaço nas escolas brasileiras como uma importante proposta para o enfrentamento dos problemas ambientais, porém, costuma ter uma concepção conservadora e, assim, ser desconexa das realidades locais. Para tanto, o artigo visa analisar a educação ambiental ensinada nos ambientes escolares no município de Diamantina/MG, a fim de atualizá-la temporo-espacialmente. As prioridades ambientais do entorno de nove escolas do ensino fundamental foram registradas via mapeamento participativo, juntamente à análise dos livros didáticos adotados por estes locais de modo a identificar e caracterizar suas abordagens ambientais. De modo geral, os produtos cartográficos representaram questões associadas a resíduos sólidos, efluentes e poluições hídrica, sonora e atmosférica, sem trazer elementos que apontem para as relações de poder e os consequentes embates por hegemonia que estrutura a sociedade moderna. E os materiais didáticos apresentam temas ambientais em sua composição, mas a maioria de forma simplificada e descontextualizada, o que contribui para os resultados alcançados nas atividades de mapeamento participativo. Como construção criativa e coletiva, a educação ambiental crítica urge-se diante da crise ambiental e, portanto, a atualização temporal e espacial das temáticas ambientais se torna, desde já, uma tarefa necessária.
