Jequitaí’s Rock Art: Internal Relations in Oposition of The Central North Minas Gerais Archaeological Context

Resumo: This paper synthesizes our descriptive and analytical approachand our first interpretive attempt towards the Jequitaí/MG rock art, locatedinthe São Francisco basin, Minas Gerais, Brazil. As this region is surrounded by other archaeological intensively surveyed and researched areas, we investigated the relationships previously proposed by other authors and aim to understand how different local graphics sets could be articulated with the major Stylistic Units already proposed. Here we present the first elementsrequired for the integration of the Jequitaí region to its macro regional archaeological context, while seeking to understand the idiosyncrasies in the rock art record, as they are participants in the landscape process.

Como se situa entre áreas arqueologicamente pesquisadas no Centro e Norte mineiro nos últimos 50 anos, buscamos investigar as relações propostas anteriormente pela bibliografia e a compreensão de como os diferentes conjuntos gráficos poderiam se articular na área pesquisada e em relação às grandes Unidades Estilísticas já propostas.
