Resumo: This paper presents the later pre-colonial occupations in the Diamantina region (North-Center of Minas Gerais state, central Brazil), based on UFMG researches. The focus here is on interpretative proposal for roles played by rockshelter sites in the regional occupation system in the Upper Holocene, when there are clear remains of domesticated plants use, but few ceramic remains and no habitation sites. Then, I make some considerations about how the Brazilian Archaeology usually think about horticulturalists archaeological sites in central Brazil.
