Neste trabalho foram produzidos 6 (seis) novos materiais ? base de caulim, ?cido succ?nico e glicerina, caracterizados por espectroscopia no infravermelho, difra??o de raios-X, testes gravim?tricos e testes simples de absor??o de ?gua. Os produtos obtidos apontam modifica??o da superf?cie do caulim com grupos COOH terminais, quando tivemos a mistura contendo glicerina e a raz?o molar de 1:1 (caulim: ?cido succ?nico). Foi observado o aumento da quantidade de estruturas org?nicas, provenientes da glicerina e grupos OH terminais, quando h? rea??o entre glicerina e o caulim nos sistemas com misturas sem ?cido succ?nico. Em produtos de rea??o contendo apenas glicerol e ?cido succ?nico ? poss?vel identificar um in?cio de processo de polimeriza??o entre a glicerina e o ?cido succ?nico, como forma de aumentar a cadeia carb?nica dos produtos finais, observado em 30 e 180 minutos de rea??o. ? poss?vel ainda verificar que, na presen?a de glicerina e ?cido succ?nico no meio, s?o formadas novas liga??es ?ster, aumento de grupos org?nicos e de grupos OH. Nos testes de absor??o de ?gua, foi observado que os todos os materiais produzidos s?o capazes de garantir a absor??o de cerca de 10 g de ?gua para cada grama de material empregado, mesmo com o aumento da fase org?nica em todos os sistemas estudados, inclusive na aus?ncia de caulim. Foram formados filmes contendo amido e os materiais desenvolvidos. Nesse tipo de aplica??o foram obtidos materiais comp?sitos de matriz polim?rica com capacidade de absor??o de ?gua de at? 55 gramas de ?gua por grama de filme. Esses resultados demonstram que os produtos obtidos podem ser utilizados de forma isolada ou associados a outros materiais, por exemplo, o amido. Nos filmes de amido o aumento na capacidade de absor??o de ?gua foi de 13,8 % usando 10 % m/m do produto contendo caulim, ?cido succ?nico e glicerina. This work presents 6 (six) new materials based on kaolin, succinic acid and glycerin, characterized by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, gravimetric and simple water absorption tests. The products obtained indicate the presence of terminal COOH groups at the kaolin surface when we had the mixture containing glycerin and molar ratio of 1: 1 (kaolin: succinic acid). An increase in the amount of organic structures from glycerin and OH terminal groups was observed when there is a reaction between glycerin and kaolin in systems with mixtures without succinic acid. The products of reactions containing only glycerol and succinic acid, there is possible to identify the beginning of the polymerization process between glycerin and succinic acid, as a way to increase the carbon chain of the final products, observed at 30 and 180 minutes of reaction. It is also possible to verify in the presence of glycerin and succinic acid in the reaction media a new ester bond are formed, an increasing of organic groups and OH groups. In the water absorption tests, it was observed that all the produced materials are able to guarantee 10 g of water absorption for each gram of material used, even with the increase of the organic phase in all the studied systems, including the absence of kaolin. Films containing starch and the developed materials were formed. In this type of application, polymeric matrix composite materials were obtained showing water absorption capacity up to 55 grams of water per gram of film. These results demonstrate that the products obtained can be used in isolation or associated with other materials, for example, starch. In starch films, the increase in water absorption capacity was 13.8 % using 10 % w/w of the product containing kaolin, succinic acid and glycerin.
