A oclus?o de metais pesados em fit?litos (s?lica biog?nica) produzidos por plantas, especialmente pela fam?lia das Poaceas, pode desempenhar um importante papel no mecanismo de desintoxica??o da planta e auxiliar na descontamina??o de solos. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o potencial fitorremediador de gram?neas a partir da produ??o de fit?litos e oclus?o dos metais pesados (Ni, Cd e Pb) nos fit?litos em tr?s solos contaminados. Instalou-se nove experimentos em casa de vegeta??o em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, separados por grandes grupos de solos (Neossolo Quartzar?nico ?rtico, Latossolo Vermelho Amarelo Distr?fico e Latossolo Vermelho Distr?fico), no esquema fatorial 3 x 4, sendo tr?s esp?cies de gram?neas (Megathyrsus. maximus, Urochloa brizantha e Urochloa decumbens) e quatro concentra??es de Ni (0; 20; 40 e 120 mg kg-1 de solo), Cd (0; 2; 4 e 12 mg kg-1 de solo) e Pb (0; 45; 90 e 270 mg kg-1 de solo) com tr?s repeti??es. As tr?s gram?neas apresentaram potencial para a produ??o de fit?litos e os fit?litos se mostraram promissores na captura dos metais t?xicos Ni, Cd e Pb, independente do solo. A produ??o de fit?litos pelas gram?neas e oclus?o dos metais Ni, Cd e Pb nos fit?litos pode ser considerado um dos mecanismos de desintoxica??o dessas plantas quando cultivadas em solos contaminados por metais pesados, al?m de reduzir a biodisponibilidade desses metais no solo. Occlusion of heavy metals in phytoliths (biogenic silica) produced by plants, and especially by the Poaceae family, can play an important role in the detoxification mechanism of the plant and assist in the decontamination of soils. This study aimed to evaluate the phytoremediation potential of grasses from the production of phytoliths and occlusion of heavy metals (Ni, Cd and Pb) in phytoliths under three contaminated soils. Nine experiments were carried out in a completely randomized design, separated by soil types (Entisols Quartzipsammentes, Oxisol Xanthic Acrudox and Oxisol Rhodic hapludox), in the 3 x 4 factorial scheme, with three species of grasses (Megathyrsus maximus , Urochloa brizantha and Urochloa decumbens) and four concentrations of Ni (0, 20, 40 and 120 mg kg-1 soil), Cd (0, 2, 4 and 12 mg kg-1 soil) and Pb , 90 and 270 mg kg-1 soil) with three replicates. The three grasses showed potential for the production of phytoliths and the phytoliths showed to be promising in the capture of the toxic metals Ni, Cd and Pb, independent of the soil. The production of phytoliths by grasses and occlusion of Ni, Cd and Pb metals in phytoliths can be considered one of the mechanisms of detoxification of these plants when cultivated under soil contaminated by heavy metals, in addition to reducing the bioavailability of these metals in the soil.
