Resumo: The highlands of the Doce river basin, while it still is called Piranga river is susceptible to recurring floods, often caused by expressive rainfall heights. Besides the risk of deaths, the floods cause severe socioeconomic and environmental problems for the local communities. Because of this, the purpose of this research was to present and apply methods to support the hydrological processes analysis related to flooding in the Piranga river watershed region. The methods are related to Bayesian inference, hydrology and cartographic sciences, purposing to support the generation of the following distinct products: (i) a rainfall model of regional representativeness applied to the prediction of extreme precipitation events, especially the maximum daily heights, obtained by model-based cluster analysis through Bayesian approach of hierarchical models; (ii) an image of the land use / land cover (LULC) from august, 2010, produced by image classification techniques supported by digital landscape models used to identify thematic categories; and (iii) a rainfall-runoff model obtained through hydrological simulation to represent a flooding scenario that has rebuilt with good accuracy, the observed discharge associated to a historic long term rainstorm. It was concluded that the proposed approach offers the possibility of knowing the most relevant hydrological process related to the flooding context, allows better understanding about the basin response behavior in the case of such events and so, supports the local organizations of water resources management on evaluate actions applied to attenuation of floods.

Além do risco de perda de vidas, as inundações causam problemas socioeconômicos e ambientais para as comunidades locais. Diante do exposto, o intuito desta pesquisa foi apresentar métodos para estudo dos processos hidrológicos relacionados à ocorrência de inundações na região da Bacia Hidrográfica do rio Piranga (BHrP). Os métodos são referentes à inferência Bayesiana, à hidrologia e às ciências cartográficas e tiveram o propósito de subsidiar a obtenção dos seguintes produtos distintos: (i) um modelo de chuvas de representatividade regional para predição de eventos extremos de precipitação, notadamente alturas diárias máximas, obtido por análise de agrupamento baseado em modelos através de abordagem Bayesiana de modelos hierárquicos; (ii) uma imagem de uso e cobertura do solo referente a agosto de 2010, obtida por técnicas de classificação de imagens com suporte de modelos digitais para representação da paisagem como subsídios para identificação das classes temáticas; e (iii) um modelo de chuva-deflúvio para representação de cenário de inundação obtido por simulação hidrológica que permitiu reproduzir a vazão de enchente relativa a uma chuva histórica de longa duração, com boa acurácia.
