Resumo: The herbal medicines are derived from vegetable, used in order to prevent, cure or mitigate the symptoms of the disease with a lower cost. Good examples of these that has been studied herbal currently looking for alternative treatments for lowering cholesterol and triacylglycerols, are the acerola, the avocado and naringin. These compounds have a large amount of bioactive substances of which has shown positive results in the prevention and treatment of dyslipidemia linked to the development of cardiovascular disease and coronary. The objectives of this study were to verify the ability of the extracts of avocado, acerola and flavonoid naringin in improving blood profile and check if they do not alter the profiles of glucose and uric acid in Wistar rats. The animals were fed with hypercholesterolemic or not ypercholesterolemic (control) and extracts of acerola, avocado and herbal naringin were offered to the animals by gavage. We used fifty-four animals divided into nine groups, one being not sick, another patient untreated, and the other test groups. After euthanasia, blood was collected by cardiac puncture and centrifuged to obtain serum, which were used to perform measurements of total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, triacylglycerols, glucose, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase acid uric. According to the results, we observed a significant reduction in levels of total cholesterol and no change in AST, ALT and ALP in all treatments, except for the group that received 50mg/Kg of acerola extract, which also was a single dose to promote significant increase in the levels of HDL. As for triacligliceróis, only extracts of avocado and the lowest dose of acerola extract promoted a significant increase. Importantly, further studies are needed to ensure quality control as well as the efficacy and safety of herbal medicines.
