Ensino e aprendizagem de engenharia agrícola e ambiental com ênfase na disciplina eletrotécnica

Resumo: Due to the large number of students in higher education and particularly those in the fields of engineering and agriculture, and also to the current shortage of engineers in the Brazilian labor market, it is necessary to reevaluate the methods used for teaching and learning in universities. This study assessed the learning styles of students and teaching styles of professors of the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering of the Federal University of Viçosa with the objective of improving education as a whole. Also evaluated in more detail was the course of Electrotechnics, verifying what content possesses greater difficulty for teaching and learning. Assessment tools were prepared and submitted to teachers and students based on educational approach of Felder and Silverman. The instruments utilized included: (i) assessment of student learning styles, (ii) assessing the teaching styles of the professors, (iii) the difficulties of the Electrotechnics course from the perspective of professors, (iv) and the same from the students. It was concluded that students are more prone to visual and sensory styles, and therefore, a teaching approach that emphasizes the use of visuals and problem-based learning may improve student learning. It was also noted that there is a discrepancy between teaching styles of the professors and learning styles of students which complicates communication between teachers and students. The content evaluated by the students and teachers as being the most difficult for learning and teaching, respectively, is synchronous machines and, to address this need visual resources (graphic animations interactive) freely available on the internet were researched that support teaching and learning of the basic concepts of this content. Also presented is a software simulation of electric motor command that allows for application of concepts of motor starters with graphical animations. All suggestions for improvement presented in this work can be freely obtained by professors and students. The students and professors who participated in the survey were informed of their results of teaching and learning styles.

The students and professors who participated in the survey were informed of their results of teaching and learning styles.Devido à grande evasão de estudantes de nível superior e, em especial, dos estudantes da área de engenharia e agricultura, e também ao atual déficit de engenheiros no mercado de trabalho brasileiro faz-se necessário repensar os métodos de ensino e aprendizagem utilizados nas universidades. Este trabalho avaliou os estilos de aprendizagem dos alunos e estilos de ensino dos professores do curso de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental da Universidade Federal de Viçosa com o objetivo de melhorar ensino como um todo. Avaliou-se ainda com mais detalhes a disciplina de Eletrotécnica verificando quais conteúdos possuíam maior dificuldade no ensino e aprendizagem. Foram preparados instrumentos de avaliação submetidos a professores e alunos baseados na abordagem educacional de Felder e Silverman. Os instrumentos utilizados cobriram: (i) avaliação dos estilos de aprendizagem dos alunos; (ii) avaliação dos estilos de ensino dos professores; (iii) das dificuldades da disciplina Eletrotécnica na perspectiva dos professores; (iv) idem, dos alunos. Concluiu-se que os alunos têm uma tendência maior aos estilos visual e sensorial e que, portanto, uma abordagem didática que enfatize a utilização de recursos visuais e a aprendizagem baseada em problemas poderá melhorar o aprendizado destes. Observou-se também que existe uma discrepância entre os estilos de ensino dos professores e os estilos de aprendizagem dos alunos o que dificulta a comunicação entre professore e alunos. O conteúdo avaliado pelos alunos e professores com maior dificuldade no aprendizado e ensino é máquinas síncronas e, para suprir esta necessidade foram pesquisados recursos visuais (animações gráficas com interação) disponibilizados gratuitamente na internet que auxiliaram o ensino e aprendizagem dos conceitos básicos deste conteúdo. Também, se apresentou um software de simulação de comando elétrico de motores que permite praticar os conceitos de métodos de partidas de motores com animações gráficas. Todas as sugestões de aprimoramento apresentadas neste trabalho estão ao alcance dos professores e alunos, gratuitamente.
