Resumo: The objective of this thesis was to present a study of the global positioning system used to monitor the displacement of structures. A methodology to determine the observations, processing and data adjustment besides of the application of relevant statistical analysis to evaluate the obtained data was presented. Two positioning stations of the IBGE, which possess coordinates and accuracy known, were used to obtain the observations. At the same time were also obtained the observations in a simulation plate of displacement, which was installed in a third station. Five days of field observations were performed. The position of the GPS receiver in the plate was changed in each day. In order to have a greater number of observations to the same number of parameters to be determined, five sections of observations per day were achieved. The positions of the GPS in the plate were 00, 05, 15, 35 e 60 mm in each day of observation, respectively. The analysis of displacement among these positions and the combinations between them was achieved. All the observations were obtained in the Campus of the Federal University of Viçosa. The baselines were obtained through the GPS observations. Then, these baselines were submitted to the adjustment using routines programmed in the MATLab. In these routines were performed the adjustment, the analysis of reliability and the test of congruence. As a result, the coordinates of the points in the cartesian and topocentric systems with their respective accuracy were achieved. The test of congruence detected existence of displacement. It was possible to identify the difference between the distance dislocated in the field and the distance obtained using the GPS. Additionally, by the ellipse of errors was possible to identify the errors in all the directions.

Uma metodologia para determinação das observações, processamento e ajustamento dos dados, além da aplicação de análises estatísticas pertinentes para avaliar os dados obtidos foi apresentada. Duas estações de posicionamento do IBGE, as quais possuem coordenadas e precisão conhecidas, foram utilizadas para obtenção das observações. Ao mesmo tempo foram obtidas, também, as observações em uma placa de simulação de deslocamento instalada em uma terceira estação. Realizou-se cinco dias de observações de campo, sendo que a posição do receptor GPS na placa mudou a cada dia. Para se ter um maior número de observações para o mesmo número de parâmetros a serem determinados, cinco seções de observações por dia foram realizadas. As posições do GPS na placa foram 00, 05, 15, 35 e 60 mm em cada dia de observação, respectivamente. A análise de deslocamento entre estas posições e também das combinações entre elas foi realizada. Todas as observações foram obtidas no Campus da Universidade Federal de Viçosa. A partir das observações GPS obtiveram-se as linhas de base, as quais foram submetidas ao ajustamento com o apoio de rotinas programadas em MATLab. Nestas rotinas foram realizados o ajustamento, a análise de confiabilidade e o teste de congruência. Como resultado, as coordenadas dos pontos no sistema cartesiano e no sistema topocêntrico com suas respectivas precisões foram obtidas. Com o teste de congruência foi possível detectar a existência de deslocamento. Foi possível identificar a diferença entre a distância deslocada em campo e a obtida com GPS.
