Resumo: Liophis Wagler (1830) is a diversified genus with around 80 species and subspecies distributed throughout the Neotropical region. The present study discusses the variation of Liophis maryellenae based on comparison of meristic, morphometric and external morphology of hemipenis of specimens deposited in herpetological collection and literature. Sexual dimorphism is absent in L. maryellenae. Here, we present the meristic characters differences between L. maryellenae, Liophis viridis and Liophis jaegeri. The color pattern is one of the most important diagnostic character of L. maryellenae. The species is distributed at Cerrado and the transition area between Cerrado and the Atlantic Forest.

O presente estudo faz uma descrição da variação morfológica, de coloração, caracteres merísticos, morfométricos e morfologia externa do hemipênis de Liophis maryellenae. Foi verificado que L. maryellenae não apresenta dimorfismo sexual. Análise de variação morfológica demonstrou que variações morfométricas não indicaram uma clara distinção de Liophis maryellenae e L. jaegeri, mas demonstra clara diferença L. viridis mas caracteres merísticos, se mostraram importantes e satisfatórias para diagnosticar e identificadar L. maryellenae separando-as de táxons próximos, como L. jaegeri e L. viridis.O padrão de coloração é um dos caracteres mais importantes na diagnose do táxon.
