Características morfológicas externas e internas de machos, fêmeas e ninfas para a identificação de grilos (Orthoptera: Grylloidea)

The large number of new cricket species (Orthoptera: Grylloidea) collected and deposited in Brazilian museums and collections, associated with the large number of unidentified species, because there are only females and nymphs of them in collections, constitute an obstacle to the progress of research on these insects. There is an immediate necessity of to develop methodologies based on female and nymph characters for cricket identification. Here, we evaluated the external and internal morphological characteristics of nymphs and adults of both sexes for identifying cricket species; we describe new genera and species, and evaluate the female terminalia. We have described ten new species and four new genera. The internal morphological structures tested in adults and nymphs did not provide suficcient characters for the identification of crickets families, genera and species. The female terminalia, on the other hand, proved to be a usefull tool for female identification to species, genera and family levels, both in qualitative (morphology) and quantitative (statistics). The identification key and diagnosis for the families have been prepared using external morphological characteristics, without genitalia analysis so as to facilitate the characterization of nymphs and adults of both sexes in supra-generic levels for non specialists.
