Resumo: The new forms of forest handling and management, in the search for higher productivity and competitiveness, must be accompanied by ethical management, so that there is no impairment on the health and the physical integrity of forest workers. This work aims to analyze the main parameters related to accidents occurring in the activities of Planted Forest Production, Native Forest Production, and Activities that Support Forest Production, between the years 2006 and 2010. The goal is to support the decision making process for the improvement of working environment conditions, and the construction of public policies that encourage the adoption of labor safety. In order to get effective results from this analysis, a survey was conducted in the data base of the Ministry of Social Welfare, regarding work-related injuries, generated in the occurrence of occupational accidents, in the activities described above. To this end, the following factors were selected: (a) by CNAE occurrences, time of occurrence, hours worked, injured body part, age, disease (CID-10), occupation (CBO) and type of accident, (b) profile of the victims, considering gender and remuneration (c) incidence rates for CNAE, deaths, mortality and lethality rates. Furthermore, have been identified and mapped regions of occurrence of an accident in Brazil. The results indicated that, the activities related to Planted Forest Production presented the highest average of accidents during this period, representing 52.59% of the cases, and an average incidence rate of 24.75 accidents per 1,000 employment bonds. The accidents occurred predominantly in the morning period (42.86%). In the intervals, from 2 to 4 hours, and from 6 to 8 hours after the shift started, 29.84% and 19.24% of the accidents happened respectively. The most typical accidents accounted for 91.53% of the records. The upper and lower body members suffered the hardest level of hits, mainly the fingers and toes, together accounting for 68.17% of the total. Throughout the analyzed period, 86 instant deaths were recorded. The year 2006 stands out with the highest mortality rate, 20.95, and the year of 2010 with the lowest, 9.43. Similarly, the lethality rate appeared higher in 2006, 8.72, but decreased in 2008. The main diseases generated as a result of the accidents were those related to Hand and Wrist Injuries (S60-S69 category of the CID-10). Regarding the profile of the victims, on average, 94% were male, and 72.16% belonged to the classification related to the Agricultural Workers of Forestry and Fisheries. From these, 64.04% belonged to the occupation Extractive Reforestation Producers of Wood Producing Species . At the time that the accidents occurred, 80.75% of the victims received one to two minimum wages, and 34.67% were in the age group of 26 to 35 years old. The city of Palmas/TO presented the highest average incidence of labor accidents during this period, followed by Almerim/PA and Curvelo/MG. Program Management Occupational Safety and Health should be specific to the needs and peculiarities of each forest operation, mainly to manual or semi-mechanized activities. Pauses and breaks during the workday should be encouraged and planned according to the physical and emotional development of each activity to the fatigue caused by sustained effort, without compromising quality and attention to work.

Pauses and breaks during the workday should be encouraged and planned according to the physical and emotional development of each activity to the fatigue caused by sustained effort, without compromising quality and attention to work.
