Resumo: | In the evolutionary relationships among Hymenoptera there are still a lot of doubts due to their considerable diversity, to the great number of species and also to the small size of most of the parasitoid hymenopterans, what hinders its classification. The ultrastructural investigations of the spermatozoa have been supplying valuable contributions for the phylogenetic study of many groups of animals, including the insects. Its occurs because the characters of those cells present a more preservative nature than those morphologic ones traditionally used. Like this, in this study we intended to characterize the morphology of the spermatozoa of Prorops nasuta (Hymenoptera: Bethylidae), using the light and transmission electron microscopies. The spermatozoa of Prorops nasuta measure 665 µm in length and they are linear and very thin. They are constituted of a head area, consisted of acrosome and nucleus with 17,5 µm in length, and a flagellum area, that includes the axoneme with microtubular arrangement 9+9+2, centriolar adjunct, two accessory bodies and two mitochondrial derivative. The flagellum possesses constant diameter until approximately its mediun portion, becoming thin and finishing, exceptionally, with a long quite thin region. In the nucleus, with compact and electron dense cromatin, occurs, later, several clearly areas, as observed in some species of bees. The centriolar adjunct runs parallel to the axoneme and one of the mitochondrial derivative, as observed in most of the Aculeata. The mitochondrial derivative are similar in shape and diameter, differing of most of the Aculeata, except ants. Also likely to the ants, there are paracristaline materials in both mitochondrial derivative, although the shape and the location of that material differ of all the other species already studied. In general, the spermatozoa of Prorops nasuta are similar to those observed in most of the Hymenoptera, however they present some exclusive characteristics, which confirms the potential of these cells in phylogenetic and taxonomic analyses in the Chrysidoidea superfamily, as well as of the Hymenoptera in general. |
