This work looked for to obtain a vision of the path of the establishment São Francisco in Buritizeiro - MG, tends in view two moments: the first, before the farmers became themself settled in the land, and the second shows the profile after the new situation from the large estate. It was intended like this to know: (i) Which the previous and subsequent path identitária to the constitution of the Establishment São Francisco: of farmers to rural workers; of rural workers to leaseholding, "landless workers"; of leaseholders to have camped; of having camped to have seated; of having seated for " San Francisco community "? In what done measure the ownership and did property of the earth make possible improvements of the life conditions and of the social and economical well-being of those seated? (iii) Which the presuppositions, the reaches and do limit of the calculation of an index of rural well-being? For such, it had been made an analysis with base in the interviews and an index was built adapted to the method presented by Kageyama (2003). The present work in the display that the path traced by those seated it was marked by the heirs' " of an earth transformation without owner for workers, soon after, leaseholding to the proprietors' denomination. As consequence the that conquest, they were acquired some resources returned to the infrastructure and the production. However, those acquisitions didn't still provide an evolution so that if it could verify a well-being level considered satisfactory tends in view that the Index of Economical and Social Well-being of the Establishment is considered low (0,41). This study presents the socioeconomic profile of the Establishment San Francisco and it generates like this a diagnosis that can aid in the promotion of development projects returned to this establishment and the other ones with the same structure.
