A multimedia system, with navigation system similar to the one of web, was developed to support slaughterhouse waste management. The system consists of five modules providing interconnected information to facilitate understanding and speedy use. The modules that constitute the multimedia system are: Environmental Management , Slaughter Process , Byproducts , Wastewater Treatment Systems and Support Decision Systems . Besides the modules, the system contains a support section, with three sub- sections: "Glossary", "Knows more" and "Contact". The modules contain technical information, concepts and important practices about the slaughter process, the waste generation and the possible use of these wastes as by- products. The system still contains the description of environmental management techniques and wastewater treatment systems, commonly used in slaughterhouses. The module "Support Decision Systems", the most important one, consists of two support decision systems, developed in order to help the user in the slaughterhouse waste management and in the selection of the wastewater treatment system. The multimedia system was evaluated by 12 users, during its final development phase, by a specific questionnaire containing quantitative questions about to the interface, content and modules, and complementary qualitative questions about potential benefits and possible difficulties for its use. The multimedia system was considered by the users as a tool capable to assist the waste management of cattle and swine slaughterhouse, providing information that helps the decisory process. The possibility of use this system as a means to show the importance of environmental control preventive practices was also detected, facilitate legislation compliance. The evaluation allowed to identify the deficiencies of the system and the adjustments that need to be made, distinguished the necessity of modifications in the interface and the content of some modules, in order to improve system-user interaction.
