Composição, ocupação ambiental e sazonalidade dos anfíbios anuros da Serra do Ouro Branco, Cadeia do Espinhaço, Minas Gerais, Brasil

This study presents data on richness, site occupancy and sazonality of anurans in Serra do Ouro Branco, extreme south of the Cadeia do Espinhaço, Minas Gerais, Brazil. In the first part we show a more complete list of anuran species from the region of Serra do Ouro Branco,. The paper presents data from monthly collections made between the years of 2006 and 2007 and data from random samples taken between 2003 and 2006. We recorded 47 species which corresponds to one of the greatest richness of frogs known to a single location in the state of Minas Gerais to date. Some of these species are typical from the Atlantic Forest (19), others from the Cerrado (7), and others are restricted to the Cadeia do Espinhaço (9). The Serra do Ouro Branco region corresponds to the southern limit of occurrence of seven species (Bokermannohyla alvarengai, B. martinsi, Crossodactylus trachystomus, Phasmahyla jandaia, Phyllomedusa itacolomi, Physalaemus evangelistai e Scinax curicica), and shelter significant populations of others species with restricted geographical distribution. The second art of this study provides information on the spatial and seasonal distribution of anurans species in the Serra do Ouro Branco, by the tracking of three aquatic environments: a pond, a permanent stream and a temporary stream held between July 2006 and June 2007. We found 28 species in this sites belonging to the families Brachycephalidae (2) Bufonidae (2), Centrolenidae (1), Cycloramphidae (2), Hylidae (16), Leiuperidae (2), Leptodactylidae (2) and Microhylidae (1). The pond showed greater richness, with 20 species. Five different reproductive patterns were defined: (1) species that call year-round or almost year-round, with larger aggregations during rainy months, (2) opportunistic species with calling activity associated with the rainy months, (3) species that call predominantly in winter; (4) species with explosive reproductive pattern, with peaks of calling activity during heavy rains and (5) species that did not show a definite calling pattern. Reproductive activity of the most species shown to be associated with rainy months, but showed no link to the temperature. There was overlap in the temporal distribution of some species, where the reproductive isolation made by exploration of different sites of vocalization or even by acoustic divergence. The spatial and seasonal distribution of species seem to adapt to biotic and abiotic factors of the environment they occupy. The great richness of frogs and effective threats that the species are subject makes urgent the implementation of conservationist measures in the Serra do Our Branco.
