Argumentação e emoção no discurso jornalístico: análise comparativa entre os jornais Tribuna Livre e Folha da Mata

In this research we proposed the analysis of discursive strategies used by the media prints. We observed the various argumentative resources used in the construction of news which goal was to affect the public´s emotion. This is a research that has as a corpus a set of 10 news reported by Tribuna Livre and Folha da Mata newspapers, both of Viçosa-MG, in the period between 07/05 and 10/04/2008, during the municipal election campaign.The news are related to administrative actions taken during 2005/2008, as well as to the facts that, somehow, they involved members of the municipal administration. It is, therefore, a comparative analysis between the discourses produced by these two instances of media production. Our hypothesis is that there were divergent opinions from the weeklies concerning the candidate to the reelection. This hypothesis was confirmed by the selection issue, the argumentative strategies and reinforced by the criteria of news location in the page and in the newspaper. In this research were discussed also issues surrounding journalistic objectivity and the relationship between emotion and reason in the argumentative process. Regarding the first point, it was confirmed positioning of the communication professionals and of the discourse analysis according to which the full exemption in the placement of the facts would be illusory. It was confirmed also the view supported by recent studies on the argumentation that there would be a natural crossover between the dimensions of logos and pathos, that is, that reason and emotion were inseparable in the argumentation. Among the several discursive theories about reasoning and emotion that served to support our research, we choose as a guide to the work the semiolinguistics by Patrick Charaudeau.
