The county of Nova Friburgo, situated on the mountain area of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Southeast Brazil) presents potential features for development of risk factors, once it is located in a topographical unstable and in a chaotic process of urbanization, mainly, in the hydrographic of the Bengalas river basin. On the region under study, the susceptibility is related to the relief and its morphometric parameters (declivity, amplitude of relief) and morphological factor, such as cliffs, hillsides at elevations, kinds of rocks, soils, morphodynamic processes and landuses. This work, implemented in 10 chapters aims to: (1) presentation of diagnostic and elaboration of the analysis of susceptibility to gravitational mass movements; (2) Proposition of areas of urban expansion which do not increase existing problems of mass movements; and (3) diagnosis and equating the urban drainage of Cônego river basin. For such, it was underlined existing geological-geotechnical processes, their main causes as well as conditioning physical-antropic factors, and starting from existing digital data, information was fully analyzed and classified as factors or restrictions for the process named Multicriteria Analysis, through which final scenarios were generated for the decision taking process. In the city, the occurrence of mass movements is a consequence of the type of occupation, coupled with deforestation and the instability of the natural environment, which were not used in construction practices and soil conservation. In general, the areas of risk involving low-income populations that occupy portions of the slopes steep slope, without the proper criteria. The physical characteristics associated with the form of occupation in the urban environment of the Cônego river basin propagate ideas of hydrological interest, especially when the instruments of analysis proposed in the simulations conclude warnings of environmental impacts. It is our aim though, generate subsidies for solutions and future interventions on the part of municipal authorities.
