Resumo: | To understand how the attack on the root herbivores can influence shoot is essential to understand the e ects that herbivory can cause the host. Plants respond when attacked by herbivores respond in an attempt to combat them. Among the varied responses, induction of defense is a mechanism frequently used by plants in these conditions. Therefore, the objective of this thesis was to determine whether an injury to the roots of a plant by a nematode triggers defensive responses and induction of defense as it varies in intensity and the injury suffered over time. Thus, as it is expected that the defensive response is systemic, what impact a specialist herbivore shoot suffer. For this, we checking: (i) if tomato plants Solanum lycopersicon infested by the root nematode Meloidogyne javanica respond to attack by the induction of defense and (ii) if tomato plants infested by nematodes in the root system affect the behavior of the herbivore oviposition shoot Tuta absoluta. For the response variation in the induction of defense and the intensity of damage and time was evaluated under different plants and days feeding on the roots. As an indication of induced defense was quantified protease inhibitor, nitrogen and photosynthesis. To check the oviposition behavior evaluated the percentage of eggs in oviposition test with multiple choice tests. Tomato plants infested root system responded to the attack by inducing systemic defense by increasing the amounts of protease inhibitors, nitrogen and the decrease of photosynthetic rate. Given these responses it was found that oviposition behavior of the specialist herbivore in the shoot was affected. The results increase the evidence that interactions between spatially separated herbivores may be mediated by the induction response of plant defense. Thus, strengthening the theory with subsidies optimal plant defense. |

Thus, strengthening the theory with subsidies optimal plant defense.
