Resumo: The economic importance of eucalyptus reforestation is unquestionable for the country, several products are provided, but the eucalyptus plantations has lead to debates about the possible damage to the environment, especially those related to water consumption and depletion of soil nutrients. This study aimed to monitor the quality and quantity of water from watershed reforestation with eucalyptus, district of Francisco Dumont, State of Minas Gerais. The study watershed is located into Serra do Cabral, which holds important natural resources with vast fields framed by rocky hills, trails, forests, savannahs, and numerous waterfalls. This work aimed to obtain the morphometric parameters for the watershed drainage area, perimeter, shape factor, compactness coefficient among others and monitor the flow and rainfall since the beginning of the area plantations. For hydrological monitoring, rain gauges were installed into watershed and flow measurements were carried out monthly since September 2007. At 2009 started the monitoring of water quality, parameters such as pH, turbidity, conductivity and dissolved oxygen were measured monthly. In the second stage tests were conducted of water infiltration, moisture and mechanical strength of the soil in different land uses in the study area. Regarding morphology, the basin has elongated shape, with low drainage density and slope of 3.38%. It was noted that the plantings are not influencing the flow of rivers, while there were a decrease in rainfall in recent years in the region. The silvicultural activities practiced in the stands not damaged or impacted the ground. The water consumed by the population does not fit in Class 1, according to CONAMA no 357/2005.

Porém, os plantios de eucalipto ainda geram debates sobre os possíveis danos ao meio ambiente, especialmente aqueles relacionados ao consumo de água e esgotamento de nutrientes do solo. Este trabalho teve por objetivo monitorar a qualidade e quantidade de água de uma bacia reflorestada com eucalipto, no município de Francisco Dumont, norte do Estado de Minas Gerais. A bacia em estudo situa-se na Serra do Cabral, que reserva importantes riquezas naturais, com extensos campos emoldurados por elevações rochosas, veredas, cerrados e florestas e várias cachoeiras nas encostas da serra. O trabalho consistiu em obter os parâmetros morfométricos da bacia, como área de drenagem, perímetro, fator de forma, coeficiente de compacidade, dentre outros; e monitorar as precipitações e vazões, desde o início dos plantios na área. Para o monitoramento hidrológico foram instalados medidores de chuva e realizadas medições de vazão mensalmente. Em 2009, iniciou-se a coleta de água para monitoramento da qualidade, do pH, da turbidez, da condutividade elétrica e do oxigênio dissolvido. Em um segundo momento, foram realizados testes de infiltração de água, umidade e resistência mecânica do solo, nos diferentes usos da área em estudo. A bacia possui forma alongada, com baixa densidade de drenagem e declividade média de 3,38%. Observou-se que os plantios não estão interferindo na vazão dos rios, mesmo tendo havido uma diminuição da precipitação ao longo dos anos do período de estudo. As atividades silviculturais praticadas nos povoamentos não prejudicaram e nem impactaram o solo.
