Planning is an important and indispensable tool in current organizations. Aiming to give an overview of the current situation in forest planning and identify the factors that affect their performance, we used qualitative research methods such as semi-structured interview, literature, meetings with key agents and field observations. Found as a result a forest planning wherein the executed distance, is more than planned, and differences between forest companies and subsidiaries integrated and no subsidiaries. In the latter case there are problems with the forestry control and twenty-four challenges to be overcome by forest planner. Moreover, the forest sector has the characteristic of long-term in its activities at all levels of planning, thus requiring, that the planning's evaluation factors are different of a standard planning. The forest planning should no longer be sporadic task and take status of constant function, that feeds back of control's information, and where necessary alter its strategy in order to achieve the objective.
