Resumo: The goal work was to determine the sensitivity of rose cultivar Osiana to ethylene, and the influence of 1- methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) under different conditions of storage on the vase life. To determine the sensitivity to ethylene the cut flowers were treated for 24 hours in chambers with different concentrations of ethylene (0.0, 0.1, 1.0, 10, 100, 1000 μL L־¹). The rose shown to be sensitive to concentrations higher than 10 μL L־¹ethylene, showing premature fall of the petals still turgid, and according to the literature, it can be characterized as a cultivar with medium sensitivity to ethylene. The first experiment with 1-MCP was composed of two conditions, the wet storage for 7 days in cold room at 5°C and at 22 ° C, using four concentrations of 1-MCP (0, 0.5; 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 g m־³ Ethylbloc). The concentration of 1.0 g m־³ was effective in prolonging the vase life of flower stems. Higher concentrations did not show any additional effect on longevity, suggesting that the receptor sites were already saturated. The cold storage at 5 °C for 7 days provided a smaller vase life, but no difference in efficacy of 1.0 g m־³ Ethylbloc in promoting an increase in longevity on stems kept at room temperature. To evaluate the effect of inhibitory action of 1-MCP in the presence of ethylene, it was set up another experiment, that consisted of treatment for 24 hours with 10 μL L־¹ of ethylene after the treatments for 24 hours with 1-MCP at concentrations of 0, 0 , 5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 g m־³ Ethylbloc. Indeed, the 1-MCP prevented the effects caused by ethylene in reducing the longevity and floral opening. To evaluate the effect of 1-MCP under the dry conditions of storage, the stems were treated for 24 hours with 1-MCP at concentrations of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 g m־³ Ethylbloc. After the treatment, the stems were wrapped in paper "strong" and stored for 3 and 7 days in cold room at 5 °C. The 1-MCP did not promote an increase in longevity under these conditions of storage, and storage for 7 days induced a lower longevity after the storage.

The 1-MCP did not promote an increase in longevity under these conditions of storage, and storage for 7 days induced a lower longevity after the storage.Os objetivos deste trabalho foram determinar a sensibilidade de rosa cultivar Osiana ao etileno e a melhor concentração do 1-metilciclopropeno (1-MCP) em diferentes condições de armazenamento sobre a sua vida de vaso e manutenção da aparência desta cultivar. Para determinar a sensibilidade ao etileno as hastes florais da rosa Osiana foram tratadas por 24 horas em câmaras herméticas com diferentes concentrações de etileno (0,0; 0,1; 1,0; 10; 100; 1000 μL L־¹). A rosa Osiana mostrou-se sensível às concentrações maiores que 10 μL L-1 de etileno, apresentando queda prematura das pétalas ainda túrgidas, e de acordo com a literatura pode ser caracterizada como uma cultivar medianamente sensível ao etileno. O primeiro experimento com 1-MCP foi constituído de duas condições de armazenamento a úmido, por 7 dias em câmara fria à 5°C e à temperatura ambiente de 22°C, utilizando 5 concentrações de 1-MCP (0; 0,5; 1,0; 1,5 e 2,0 g m-3 de Ethylbloc). A concentração de 1,0 g m-3 de Ethylbloc foi efetiva em prolongar a vida de vaso das hastes florais. Concentrações maiores não apresentaram nenhum efeito adicional na longevidade, sugerindo que os sítios receptores já se encontravam saturado. O armazenamento em câmara fria a 5°C por 7 dias proporcionou uma menor vida de vaso após o armazenamento, mas não diferiu na efetividade de 1,0 g m-3 de Ethylbloc em promover aumento na longevidade em relação às hastes mantidas em condições ambiente. Para avaliar o efeito da ação inibitória do 1-MCP na presença do etileno foi estabelecido outro experimento que constou de tratamento por 24 horas com 10 μL L-1 de etileno após os tratamentos por 24 horas com 1-MCP nas concentrações de 0; 0,5; 1,0; 1,5 e 2,0 g m-3 de Ethylbloc. Efetivamente, o 1-MCP preveniu os efeitos causados pelo etileno como redução da longevidade e abertura floral. Para avaliar o efeito do 1-MCP sob condições de armazenamento a seco, as hastes florais foram tratadas por 24 horas em câmaras herméticas com 1-MCP nas concentrações de 0,5; 1,0; 1,5 e 2,0 g m-3 de Ethylbloc, após os tratamentos as hastes foram embaladas em papel strong e armazenadas por 3 e 7 dias em câmara fria a 5°C.
