Resumo: | The Kraft pulping process is the world's major chemistry pulping method, because the pulp produced is stronger than other process. Although the air pollution of odorous compounds and the complex black liquor recovery can be a problem for some companies. The Soda pulping can be an alternative process with no sulfur compounds and better strength qualities if added additives. This paper show some alternatives to optimize Soda pulping through modern pulping processes with additives, and giving a better understanding of their action. In addition to a study of hardwood Kraft pulping kinetics. Thus, this thesis has been developed in 3 chapters in order to study optimization of Soda and Kraft delignification. Chapter 1 present the action of new anthraquinone and surfactants formulations in Lo-Solids Soda pulping of eucalyptus, with the goal of finding the best dosages and combinations. Chapter 2 brings how to optimize the Soda process and an understanding of these additives action in both process, Kraft and Soda. Chapter 3 (conducted at the State University of North Carolina at Sandwich DS) investigated the kinetics of kraft delignification at 3 phases (initial, bulk and residual) in different hardwoods in order to understand and optimize the delignification to each type of raw material. The results of these studies led to the following main conclusions: The additives were effective, both individually and combined were able to improve the soda pulping qualities, such as yield and viscosity. The soda pulping can be improved using higher alkali charge. Residual alkali from 8 to 10 g/l increases the pulp viscosity compared with lower charges, as increases the xylan degradation without decreases the yield. The additives were more effective for soda pulping, increasing more yield compared with same additive charge for Kraft process. The lignosulfonate showed the same performance that surfactants, for both processes. More tests are needed to confirm the lignosulfonate as a substitute for surfactant. But it is not indicated for the soda pulping process, if sulfur viiicompounds were avoided. Activation energy values were also calculated and they appear to have a linear correlation with wood S/G ratio. It was also found a linear correlation between the Kraft delignification rate and the S/G ratio. This study can provide a better understand of semi-chemical and low kappa pulping process and also bioconversion industry, identifying opportunities for optimum raw materials selection based on delignification behavior. |

No capítulo 2 é buscada a otimização do processo e compreensão da ação destes aditivos tanto no processo Soda quanto no Kraft.
