Resumo: The objective of this study was to disseminate the legislation applied abroad in a comparative study aimed at adding external characteristics to the current legislative model in Brazil. A parallel was made between the two legislations environmentally, regarding the Law Institute of the Permanent Preservation Areas by outlining a comparison through a specific methodology, of the legislation and policies of the following countries: firstly, Portugal’s juridical ordaining, since this is a country with an influent legal tradition influence on the Brazilian Law and also present in the current changes of the European Union guidelines; secondly, the Canadian juridical ordaining, for its forestry experience in its various provinces – with British Columbia being selected for its development in the forest sector and rigorous legislation; to complete the research, Finland was included, for its knowledge in forest development and lastly, Australia, for its tropical forest characteristics, large productive area and colonization history, similar to Brazil.
