Resumo: In this thesis, the analyses of six compression load tests with slow maintained load (SML) on continuous flight auger piles from different municipalities of the Great Metropolitan Area of Vitoria-ES, Brazil, are presented. The piles were all 40cm in diameter, but their lengths were variable. Soil characterization at each pile location was done by Standard Penetration Tests with Torque measurement. Load transfer of piles with depth was measured by four levels of instrumentation installed along the shaft. Each level of instrumentation was comprised of strain-gauges attached to a steel bar placed inside a galvanized pipe, and these pipes were then inserted into the piles prior to concrete pumping, through the auger axis. The ultimate load of the piles was calculated through analysis of the load- displacement curve. In this study, an analysis of the results of instrumentation showed that the larger part of the load applied at the top of the piles was absorbed by lateral friction and two piles developed significant tip load mobilization with small tip displacement. Results from field experiments were compared to ultimate load estimations that were obtained from methods presently in use in Brazil for continuous flight auger piles.
