O interesse em estudar esse tema surgiu a partir da observação de campo em diversas comunidades rurais do país, por se perceber que o uso do álcool acarretou sérios problemas para as famílias que possuem algum membro que sofre do alcoolismo. Os dados apresentados nesse trabalho são frutos de trabalhos de campo realizados entre os anos de 2001 e 2006 que foram obtidos por meio de observação e análise do dia-dia de um grupo de alcoólatras no assentamento Vereda I. Os resultados indicaram que o álcool é uma doença crônica, e o seu uso é uma espécie de fuga da realidade para os assentados. Observou-se também que a ausência de políticas públicas relacionadas ao alcoolismo contribui para a gravidade da situação, culminando com o deterioramento das condições de vida do alcoólatra e de suas famílias.This article aims to reflect on alcoholism in rural settlements in the municipality of Padre Bernardo, GO. The interest in studying this subject arose from field observations in several rural communities in the country, noting that alcohol use caused serious problems for families who have a member who suffers from alcoholism. The data presented here are the results of fieldwork conducted between 2001 and 2006, obtained through observation and analysis of the daily lives of a group of alcoholics in the settlement Vereda I. The results indicated that alcohol is a chronic disease, and its use is a kind of escape from reality for settlers.
