Resumo: | Erosion caused by the concentration of surface runoff is one of the main problems related to unpaved roads, one which generates expressive losses at social, economical and environmental levels. Having in mind the importance of the development of methodologies for the water erosion control in unpaved roads, similar to the processes recurrent in real field conditions, this work was developed, of which the objectives were: to develop, as well as to evaluate, a model for the design of drainage systems for unpaved roads; to develop a software for application on the proposed model. In that model, synthetic rainfall data are used for the performance of daily analysis of runoff at the ditch and resulting detachment of particles. The maximum spacing between road mitre drains is defined as the one in which the sum of the ditch soil losses, taking into consideration the analysis of all events of the precipitation series data, is less than the value corresponding to the tolerable soil loss. Aiming at making it easier to use the model, a software was developed. Evaluation of the model was based on comparative analysis between predicted data by the model and observed data in field, nd, lso, fro pplic tion of the odel s sensitivity tests to the in input variables. Observed data were obtained from monitoring of ditch deepening in a portion of an unpaved road within the Viçosa Federal University campus. According to the results, it was observed that the model presented good prediction of the ditch deepening, either in temporal scale (during the period in which the field data were recorded) or in spatial scale (along the ditch). More sensitivity was displayed by the model towards the variation of the variables soil critical sheer stress and the ditch slope, and less sensitivity towards the soil erodibility. The software developed for application at the proposed model (SiDE) offers an easy and fast way for determining the maximum spacing between mitre drains and the proper design of the infiltration basins. |
