Bisphosphonates are synthetic analogues of pyrophosphates that act as potent inhibitors of osteoclast activity and are indicated for the treatment of diseases that affect bone metabolism, especially some types of bone cancer, Paget's disease, multiple myeloma and also osteoporosis , especially in postmenopausal women. Patients who make or use bisphosphonates require special attention from dental surgeons, since one of the main adverse reactions of this medication can reach the oral cavity, such as osteonecrosis of the jaw. Thus, the objective of this research was to evaluate the knowledge of the undergraduate students in dentistry at the University of Grande Rio on bisphosphonates. The information was obtained through a questionnaire, which was applied to the students of the last year of the graduation course in dentistry of Unigranrio. The questionnaire consisted of 10 questions organized to detect the degree of theoretical knowledge, clinical practice and professional conduct of the student about bisphosphonates. It was possible to observe a profound inconsistency in the students' knowledge about bisphosphonates, reflecting the option of the majority of the students, for not treating patients using bisphosphonates. In this way, it is suggested the inclusion of the object of this study in the undergraduate dentistry course, which can be included in the content of disciplines such as surgery, pharmacology, biochemistry, pathology, semiology and even integrated clinic.
