Mudanças no sistema partidário e as eleições nacionais de 2009 no Chile

The goal of this paper is to analyse the contemporary Chilean political parties system, considering results of the 2009 national presidency elections and also the national congress elections. Starting with the interpretation, traditional in political science, that the chilean parties system is peculiar in Latin America due to its high level of institutionalization, we try to identify the contemporary impact of variables like “trust in the political parties” and “ideology identification” in this system. For that, we will be based on public opinion survey results applied to Chilean citizens. Furthermore, we will seek to define the political scene profile in which the 2009 elections were conducted in Chile, in particular, observing the fragmentation of the main parties and the center-left coalition defeat “Concertación”. Also, we will analyze electoral results impact to the Chilean political parties system.
