Teaching (History of) Anthropology in Brazil: a Latin American bibliographical essay

Resumo: Through a re-reading of some moments of Latin American intellectual history, including in them frequently neglected periods and trajectories, this paper aims at both rethinking Brazilian and global approaches to the history of anthropology and proposing a new strategy for the teaching of anthropology at the Brazilian university. The main assumption of the essay is the conviction that it is not only anthropology that has been offering anthropological interpretations of the various aspects of the social and cultural reality of Latin America. Thus, an "anthropological" re-reading of the Latin American intellectual production of the last 150 years is also achieved symmetrically.

La suposición principal del ensayo es la convicción de que no es ni fue sólo la antropología la disciplina que ha ofrecido interpretaciones antropológicas de los diversos aspectos de la realidad social y cultural de América Latina. Así, también se alcanza, simétricamente, una relectura "antropológica" de la producción intelectual latinoamericana de los últimos 150 años.Através de uma releitura de alguns momentos da história intelectual latino-americana, incluindo neles períodos e trajetórias frequentemente negligenciadas, neste trabalho se pretende, ao mesmo tempo repensar as abordagens brasileiras e globais à história da antropologia e propor uma nova estratégia para o ensino de antropologia na universidade brasileira. O pressuposto principal do ensaio é a convicção de que não é nem foi apenas a antropologia a disciplina que tem oferecido interpretações antropológicas dos vários aspectos da realidade social e cultural da América Latina.
