Weddings Between Haitian Migrants in the Taquari Valley: the religious ceremony and wedding parties

Resumo: Getting married in the diaspora raises many interesting facts, including the ceremonies and parties. Empirical observations carried out in the cities of Lajeado, Estrela and Encantado, in the Vale do Taquari region, in Rio Grande do Sul, showed the practice of marriage among Haitian migrants settled there. The objective of the article is to describe the marriages of Haitian migrants, as well as religious ceremonies and wedding parties, and report their peculiarities. It has been demonstrated that these are common social practices that demonstrate social cohesion and affirm the group's identity. It was possible to establish three dimensions regarding this social practice: political, family and religious. The reflections are the result of ethnographic research, carried out between 2017 and 2020, combined with documentary and bibliographical research with a qualitative approach.

Se ha demostrado que se trata de prácticas sociales comunes que demuestran cohesión social y afirman la identidad del grupo. Fue posible establecer tres dimensiones respecto de esta práctica social: política, familiar y religiosa. Las reflexiones son resultado de una investigación etnográfica, realizada entre 2017 y 2020, combinada con una investigación documental y bibliográfica con enfoque cualitativo.Casar na diáspora suscita muitas curiosidades, entre elas as cerimônias e festas. Observações empíricas realizadas nas cidades de Lajeado, Estrela e Encantado, na região do Vale do Taquari, no Rio Grande do Sul, evidenciaram a prática do matrimônio entre os migrantes haitianos ali estabelecidos. O objetivo do artigo é descrever os casamentos dos migrantes haitianos, bem como as cerimônias religiosas e as festas de casamentos, e relatar suas peculiaridades. Restou demonstrado que são práticas sociais comuns que evidenciam a coesão social e afirmam a identidade do grupo. Foi possível estabelecer três dimensões a respeito dessa prática social: a política, a familiar e a religiosa.
