Uso de los pronombres átonos en el español en contacto con otomí

This study was aimed at determining the internal and external conditions that motivate the variation and possible language change in the unstressed pronoun system of acusative in the variety of Spanish in contact with otomí, in Santiago Mexquititlán (Mexico), and analyzing the role of language contact in these processes. For this, we analyzed a corpus whose data was collected from 38 informants. We found that the pronoun system in this community follows the same patterns as the etymological one. A contact -induced changed was discarded after a detailed analysis of the linguistic and social variables, and given the speakers’ negative attitudes (both the bilingual speakers’ and monolingual speakers’ in Spanish), as these have triggered a language shift, and consequently, a non-intense language contact and low degrees of bilingualism. Rather, a back- stage change was determined.
