This article deals with the Cannibalist Manifesto (1928) and the essay book A Utopia antropofágica (1990) written by the Brazilian modernist, Oswald de Andrade. The paper proposes an analysis of the ideas developed by the author as a possibility of interpretation of the Brazilian society. The concept of anthropophagy, developed in the Andrade’s writings, emerges as a tool through which is possible to think about our history and our reality, problematizing the relations between center and periphery. Considering the context of seeking for a national identity in which these works were written and the possibility of dialogue with other authors of our historiography, I try to understand the writer's texts and the concept of anthropophagy.
