Resumo: This article analyzes narratives (interviews and handwritten reports) of student activists who operated in the city of João Pessoa, Brazil, between 1968 and the 1970s, when the Brazilian military dictatorship was at its most extreme, especially from 1969 onwards, after the AI-5 of December 13, 1968. It seeks to reflect on the experiences of young people who had glimpses of freedom and who came up against censorship, prohibitions and tortures inflicted by the dictatorial system. The main focus of the interviews and this proposed analysis is on the year 1968, but the time frame has been broadened as a result of the approaches in the memoirs. I was invited by a militant from that period to develop the work, and the interviews we conducted, as well as the narratives they sent us, were published in two volumes. The people who gave us their accounts did not stick to 1968, but went into the 1970s. The field of theoretical and methodological references is made up of issues relevant to oral history, the subject of trauma and historiography, the latter referring to the Brazilian military regime from the historiographical output that deals with the movements in the state of Paraíba, Brazil. In this regard, the main references are the historians Monique Citadino and Paulo Giovani Nunes. Giorgio Agamben, Achille Mbembe and Márcio Seligmann-Silva are the main theoretical references. I would also like to highlight specific works on oral history, such as those by Verena Alberti and Dora Schwarzstein.
