SPORTS AS RULES OF CONDUCT AND SPORTS MEGA EVENTS AS A MIRROR OF A NATION: THE STRENGTH AND IMPORTANCE OF THE OLYMPIC LEGACY: A Força e a Importância do Legado Olímpico

Resumo: In this article we approach how sport and its rules of conduct can be used as an instrument of domination and control, but are seen as leisure and an exercise of citizenship within a society. We also highlight how sports mega-events transcend this context and are now used by countries and large companies to generate profit, drive the economy and influence international relations. For this, we first point to theories of power relations by Nye (soft power), Duroselle (repetition and regularity) and Bourdieu (sport as docility) and then explain how they can be observed in the importance given to the Olympic legacy.

También destacamos cómo los megaeventos deportivos trascienden este contexto y ahora son utilizados por países y grandes empresas para generar ganancias, impulsar la economía e influir en las relaciones internacionales. Para ello, primero señalamos las teorías de las relaciones de poder de Nye (soft power), Duroselle (repetición y regularidad) y Bourdieu (deporte como docilidad) y luego explicamos cómo se pueden observar en la importancia otorgada al legado olímpico.Dans cet article, nous abordons comment le sport et ses règles de conduite peuvent être utilisés comme instrument de domination et de contrôle, mais sont considérés comme un loisir et un exercice de citoyenneté au sein d'une société. Nous soulignons également comment les méga-événements sportifs transcendent ce contexte et sont désormais utilisés par les pays et les grandes entreprises pour générer des profits, stimuler l'économie et influencer les relations internationales. Pour cela, nous pointons d'abord les théories des rapports de force de Nye (soft power), Duroselle (répétition et régularité) et Bourdieu (le sport comme docilité) puis expliquons comment elles s'observent dans l'importance accordée à l'héritage olympique.Neste artigo abordamos como o esporte e suas regras de conduta podem ser usados como instrumento de domínio e controle, mas são vistos como lazer e um exercício de cidadania dentro de uma sociedade. Também salientamos como os megaeventos esportivos transcendem esse contexto e passam a ser usados pelos países e pelas grandes empresas para geração de lucro, movimentação da economia e instrumento de influência nas relações internacionais.
