Biodiversidade e diversidade etnolinguística na Amazônia

The objective of this article is to show that there are interesting parallels between biological diversity and language diversity in Amazonia. Up to a certain point, the former has to do with the latter. Once it is rich biologically, it is also rich linguistically, what is not easy to show, unless we use plausible projections. This region is relatively isolated from the rest of the world, being accessible only through the isthmus of Panama. This lead to the development of rare linguistic phenomena, which can be found only here. The consequence of the ongoing language obsolescence and death will be the loss of invaluable language knowledge, at all levels, such as the phonological, the morphological, the syntactic and even the semantic.
