Dilemmas on the judicialization of domestic violence in comparative perspective between Brazil and East-Timor

This article discusses the contexts of judicialization of domestic violence in Brazil and Timor-Leste, presenting the demands of social movements for this to be possible and narrating some dynamics that took place in the courts of both countries. I argue that the demands for recognition that enabled the activation of criminal law to manage these conflicts led to scenarios where claims for justice and the guarantee of women's rights are confronted by the logic of the judicial institutions of these countries. I conclude that the analysis of the judicial administration of these conflicts allows us to observe other phenomena, such as civilizing aspects and potential processes of new subjectivations for the parties involved, promoted by legal operators and other actors who advocate for access to judicial institutions.
