The social history of fashion is built on the pillars of a binary and hierarchical organization that establishes gender roles in the Western society. As a micro reality, the forensic environment replicates this hierarchical and heteronormative organization, founded by colonial bases of power and knowledge, through rules on appropriate clothing for access to Brazilian forums and courts. The adoption of colonial aesthetics by such rules, although their main objective is to maintain decorum within the forensic environment and dignify legal careers, leads to repeated discrimination of lawyers, especially when it comes to gender and racial discrimination. Through analysis of internal court regulations and news in which there is discrimination of bodies by fashion based on these norms, it is intended to develop the notion of how dignifying the law by colonial fashion/aesthetics, in fact, violates the postulate of freedom that is intrinsic to that principle and therefore limits the full performance of lawyers.
