Resumo: The Brazilian Supreme Court recently ruled regarding the constitutional status of interrupting pregnancies when the fetus in question is anencephalic. This case brought back into the public sphere relevant aspects of the relatively old controversy around the decriminalization of abortion, as well as the broader issue of the value of human life within the Brazilian legal system. The aim of this essay is to situate the aforementioned decision in the broader context of the current debates regarding the right to life, focusing especially on its relationships with other rights and fundamental principles, in this case, special emphasis is given to human dignity. --------------------- Translated by Joanna Noronha, to whom I thank for the fast and very good job.
