Resumo: Designing buildings has faced dramatic changes during the 20th century. As buildings reached greater heights, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems became essential to assure comfortable indoor environments. This practice led to a significant increase in energy consumption. As researches show this demand will keep growing, the pursuit for energy efficiency strategies is now mandatory in construction. Existing buildings are a substantial part of this quest for better performance in energy, thus, they must meet the new quality standards through rehabilitation. Thereby, the study assessed the energy saving potential in a corporate built complex in Belém-PA, in order to apply retrofit concepts. The study used the Post-Occupancy Evaluation methodology to understand users’ behavior and their adaptability to different environmental conditions. Following, Energy Conservation Opportunities (ECOs) were proposed, whose savings and payback were calculated. 14% of projected savings were provided on monthly energy consumption, with a payback of 2.22 months.

Con los edificios alcanzando alturas cada vez mayores, los sistemas de climatización artificial se han convertido en imprescindibles para garantizar el confort de los ambientes, práctica que llevó a un aumento significativo del consumo de energía eléctrica. Dado que la demanda presenta perspectivas de seguir creciendo, la búsqueda de la eficiencia energética en la construcción civil es obligatoria. Los edificios existentes son una parte sustancial de esta búsqueda y deben ser rehabilitados para alcanzar los nuevos estándares de calidad. Así, el estudio de caso evaluó el potencial de ahorro energético en un complejo construido en Belém-PA, para aplicar conceptos de retrofit energético. La investigación se basó en la metodología de la Evaluación Post Ocupacional, para analizar el comportamiento de los usuarios y su adaptabilidad a condiciones ambientales diferentes a las actuales. Luego, se desarrollaron Estrategias de Conservación de Energía, para ser sometidas a cálculos de ahorro proporcional y payback. Con estos pasos, se logró una reducción proyectada del 14% en el consumo de energía mensual del complejo, con un payback de 2.22 meses.A forma de projetar edifícios passou por profundas mudanças no século XX. Com as construções atingindo alturas cada vez maiores, os sistemas artificiais de climatização se tornaram essenciais para garantir conforto aos ambientes, prática que conduziu a um aumento expressivo no consumo de energia elétrica. Visto que essa demanda apresenta perspectivas de continuar crescendo, torna-se mandatória a busca por eficiência energética na construção civil. As edificações existentes são parte dessa busca e devem passar pela reabilitação para alcançar os novos padrões de qualidade. Assim, o estudo de caso avaliou o potencial de economia de energia em um complexo edificado localizado em Belém-PA, a fim de aplicar conceitos de retrofit energético. A pesquisa utilizou a metodologia da Avaliação Pós-Ocupação para entender o comportamento dos usuários e sua adaptabilidade a condições ambientais diferentes das atuais. Em seguida, foram elaboradas Estratégias de Conservação de Energia, a serem submetidas a cálculos de economia proporcionada e de payback.
