Analysis of the relationship between vegetation, shading and user behavior of an urban open space in the city of São Carlos-SP

Resumo: The urbanization process of cities has accentuated the consequences of global climate change. Therefore, the relevance of studies that demonstrate the importance of urban open spaces for the quality of life of city users is highlighted. The objective of this work is to contribute to the understanding of the relationships between vegetation, microclimate and user behavior in urban open spaces. The study was carried out in the Kartódromo Park in the city of São Carlos-SP, whose climate is characterized as tropical in altitude. The methodology consists of: characterization of the study area; definition of measurement points; behavioral maps; microclimatic measurements; analysis of results; and discussion. It was noticed that the air temperature values ​​were similar in the shaded point, as well as in the point exposed to the sun. Some variables interfered in the behavior of others, as was the case of air temperature compared to wind speed. Another factor that may also have an influence is the type of paving in the surroundings. Despite this, park users continued to prefer shaded areas to carry out their activities. It was concluded that in some situations, therefore, the presence of vegetation is not enough to guarantee an improvement in the local microclimate.

El proceso de urbanización de las ciudades ha acentuado las consecuencias del cambio climático global. Por ello, se destaca la relevancia de estudios que demuestren la importancia de los espacios urbanos abiertos para la calidad de vida de los usuarios de la ciudad. El objetivo de este trabajo es contribuir a la comprensión de las relaciones entre la vegetación, el microclima y el comportamiento de los usuarios en los espacios urbanos abiertos. El estudio se llevó a cabo en el Parque Kartódromo de la ciudad de São Carlos (São Paulo), cuyo clima se caracteriza por ser tropical de altitud. La metodología consiste en: caracterización del área de estudio; definición de puntos de medición; mapas de comportamiento; mediciones microclimáticas; análisis de resultados; y discusión. Se notó que los valores de temperatura del aire eran similares en el punto a la sombra, así como en el punto expuesto al sol. Algunas variables interfirieron en el comportamiento de otras, como fue el caso de la temperatura del aire frente a la velocidad del viento. Otro factor que también puede influir es el tipo de pavimento del entorno. A pesar de ello, los usuarios del parque siguieron prefiriendo las zonas sombreadas para realizar sus actividades. Se concluyó que en algunas situaciones, por lo tanto, la presencia de vegetación no es suficiente para garantizar una mejora en el microclima local. Diante disso, ressalta-se a relevância de estudos que demonstrem a importância de espaços livres urbanos para a qualidade de vida dos usuários das cidades. O objetivo deste trabalho consiste em contribuir para a compreensão das relações existentes entre vegetação, microclima e comportamento de usuários em espaços livres urbanos. O estudo foi realizado no Parque do Kartódromo da cidade de São Carlos-SP, cujo clima caracteriza-se como tropical de altitude. A metodologia constitui-se em: caracterização da área de estudo; definição dos pontos de medições; mapas comportamentais; medições microclimáticas; análise dos resultados; e discussão. Percebeu-se que os valores de temperatura do ar foram semelhantes no ponto sombreado, como também, no ponto exposto ao sol. Algumas variáveis interferiram no comportamento de outras, como foi o caso da temperatura do ar diante da velocidade dos ventos. Outro fator que também pode ter influenciado é o tipo da pavimentação do entorno. Apesar disso, os usuários do parque continuaram preferindo as áreas sombreadas para a realização de suas atividades.
