Resumo: The implementation of the railway system in Brazil, from the 19th century, had a great influence on economic and population growth, as well as on the development and modernization of many cities. In this context, the objective of this manuscript is to analyze the urban transformations from the presence of the railroad, aiming to understand the influence of its implantation/relocation on the morphology and consolidation of the city of Passo Fundo/RS-Brazil. For this purpose, documentary and bibliographic research was carried out, starting from the historical recovery about the theme, as well as the search for photographic records for chronological comparison. Therefore, it is observed that there was, in different time frames, a relationship of exchange and dependence between the railroad and the city. The cities covered by the train benefited at some point from the innovation, agility and attractive power of the system, which was able to strengthen existing nuclei, instigate the creation of new clusters and, in some cases, result in the decay of urban centers far from their coverage.

En este contexto, el objetivo de este manuscrito es analizar las transformaciones urbanas a partir de la presencia del ferrocarril, con el objetivo de comprender la influencia de su implantación / relocalización en la morfología y consolidación de la ciudad de Passo Fundo/RS-Brasil. Para ello se realizó una investigación documental y bibliográfica, a partir de la recuperación histórica sobre el tema, así como la búsqueda de registros fotográficos para la comparación cronológica. Por tanto, se observa que existió, en distintos marcos temporales, una relación de intercambio y dependencia entre el ferrocarril y la ciudad. Las ciudades cubiertas por el tren se beneficiaron en algún momento de la innovación, agilidad y poder de atracción del sistema, que supo fortalecer los núcleos existentes, instigar la creación de nuevos clusters y, en algunos casos, derivar en la decadencia de núcleos urbanos lejanos de su cobertura.A implantação do sistema ferroviário no Brasil, a partir do século XIX, teve grande influência no crescimento econômico e populacional, bem como no desenvolvimento e na modernização de muitas cidades. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste manuscrito é analisar as transformações urbanas a partir da presença da ferrovia, visando compreender a influência da sua implantação/realocação na morfologia e na consolidação da cidade de Passo Fundo/RS-Brasil. Para tanto, foi realizada pesquisa documental e bibliográfica, partindo do resgate histórico acerca do tema, bem como da busca por registros fotográficos para a comparação cronológica. Logo, observa-se que houve, em recortes temporais distintos, relação de troca e dependência entre ferrovia e cidade.
